Two victims report rental house scam

Two different victims reported to police Tuesday that they found a house they wanted to rent on Trulia.com and later discovered the person in contact information didn't have authority to rent the house. A woman reported that she contacted someone online about the house in the 1300 block of Stuart Road and received a contract via e-mail. She signed the contract and sent it back along with a deposit on the house. But later she learned that she did not have a legitimate deal on the rental. A man reported Tuesday that he also contacted the person listed on the rental site but didn't feel right about the information he received so he tried to rent the house using another method. He too later learned that the person representing himself as a rental authority had no connection with the house. An investigation is continuing.
